VISITORS:   In order to make class time more productive for
everyone, we do not allow visitors in any of our classes.
We are better able to encourage your child’s full concentration
in this way.  The only exceptions to this rule are the special
visitor days, of which you will be notified in advance.

PLACEMENT/PROMOTION:  All classes are taught on a
graded system with each child progressing at her/his own speed
and ability. Students are not always promoted by class, but are
placed individually each year. Not every dance school’s
curriculum matches the level of training provided at HKSD.
Therefore new students will be placed by ability, not the
number of years taken.  If needed, adjustments will be made
during the first few months of the dance year.

ABSENCES/ATTENDANCE:  No refunds or deductions are given for missed classes. Any class
that is missed may be made up in another class.  Regular attendance is essential if your child is to
make progress.  Please try not to miss class unless it is absolutely necessary.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP:  Students should not arrive more than 10 minutes before their
scheduled class time and should be picked up immediately after class.  Repeated early drop-off and
repeated failure to pick up a dancer promptly will result in a $10.00 per fifteen-minute penalty.
This will be charged to your account to pay the teacher or office staff who supervised your child.
HKSD will generally open 30 minutes before the start of the first class of the day. Young children
and siblings of dancers waiting in the lobby are to be supervised by a parent at all times and are
expected to follow all HKSD rules. The School reserves the right to dismiss anyone whose conduct is
unsatisfactory.

DANCE ATTIRE:  Proper dance attire is important and will be strictly enforced. Both ballet and
tap shoes are to be secured by elastic.  Names should be written in all shoes. All students must have
their hair neatly tied back away from their face.  Students will not be allowed to participate in class
unless dressed properly.  Specific requirements are listed under course descriptions.

COMMUNICATION:  In order for your child to get the full benefit of lessons, it is important that
teachers be able to devote all class time to teaching.  We ask that class time not be interrupted. If
you have questions or need to discuss a problem, please leave a message with the office and your
call will be returned as quickly as possible. As a courtesy to our parents, newsletters will be sent
home regularly and will contain important information regarding upcoming events and payments
that are due.  Please pay careful attention to these newsletters, as this is our way of communicating
with you.

ANNUAL STUDENT SHOWCASE (DATE, TIME, & LOCATION TBA):  At the end of each
dance year, the school will present a professional showcase of our dancers’ talents and hard work.
Participation in this production is optional; however, we feel that performance is an important part
of your child’s dance training.  Students will improve their stage presence and performance skills.
They will also learn correct theater etiquette and stage directions.  Most importantly, students will
gain confidence as they “see” and appreciate the progress they have made throughout the year.

  • The Showcase Fee (non-refundable) is $45.00 per family and is due February 1st. Families
paying after February 10th will be charged $55.00.  This fee will assist with the costs of
producing a professional Showcase, including facility rental, music editing, lighting, sound,
    and a technical crew.
  • Showcase costumes will be ordered before Christmas and costume payments will be due in
    November.
  • More information will be given to each student at a later date with further details regarding
    the Showcase.
